You can record the places you visit—restaurants, attractions, and more—as check-ins to revisit them later or keep them as memories.

For spots you frequent, the app shows insights like how many times you've gone and how long it's been since your last visit.

Log who visited with you, then filter your history by person. In v1.5, you can also create categories for family, friends, or other groups and select companions by category when checking in.

Saving a chain name lets you track check-in counts per chain instead of per individual location.

If the chain appears in our prebuilt list, it's set automatically. Otherwise, enter it manually. The app uses Apple Maps data, so names can vary—for example Seven Eleven, 7-Eleven, or 7-11.

We reference a normalization list to absorb those differences, but it's still growing, so please report any gaps you find. When you report one, share the official name along with any alternate spellings.

Your journal is stored on your device. nicoPlace does not upload your records to a developer-operated server and does not include advertising or usage analytics SDKs.

Maps, place search, and address lookups connect to Apple services. Optional iCloud backup saves a copy to your iCloud Drive. Opening or refreshing the region download screen, or downloading boundary files, connects to asset.place.nicodev.app; these requests do not include your check-in history, precise coordinates, notes, companions, or photos.

Travel groups related check-ins into a private trip timeline, making it easier to revisit where you went across multiple days.

A Travel view can summarize the route, dates, distance, companions, photos, and day-by-day history for a trip. It uses your existing check-in data and keeps the history on your device.

You can still use the app, but because we can't detect your current location, the map will start from the last place you used.

Yes. In v1.5, you can add and edit your own private places on the map, choose their icons, and tap them to check in. You can also check in at any map location without creating a custom place.

Insight (Beta) helps you review monthly and overall trends, frequently visited places, companions, and photo memories. Download geographic boundary data by country to display visited regions as areas on a full-screen map.

Yes. v1.5 adds Apple Watch support (Beta), so you can start a check-in from your wrist. The Watch app exchanges place and check-in information with your paired iPhone through Apple Watch Connectivity. Nearby searches may also use Apple Maps.

Backup and restore include check-in history, attached photos, custom places, and companion categories. Automatic iCloud backup is off by default; enable it in Settings > Data to save a copy to iCloud Drive, at most once every 24 hours while the app is in use.

iCloud backup does not provide live synchronization between devices. Turning it off stops future automatic backups but does not delete existing copies. Photos stored by nicoPlace are resized copies, not backups of the originals.

The iPhone app supports English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Apple Watch supports English and Japanese.

Check-ins recorded before v1.5 did not save region names and related information, so they may not appear in check-in statistics by region.

Open Settings > Maintenance, then tap Run under History Data Backfill. The app retrieves place information for your past check-ins from Apple Maps to fill in the missing data.

Some records may not be fully completed, depending on the information available from Apple Maps.
